Ed Sheeran’s signature
Ed Sheeran’s signature is built from very few strokes: a large, twisting E that loops back on itself and a short, quick "Sh" that runs off to the right. It looks like one single movement, and that is the point. Watch it being drawn below and see what makes such a minimal signature easy to recognise.
A tall E made of overlapping loops, followed by a small hook and a tail that stretches out to the right.
Guitars, albums, photos and charity items, usually in silver or black marker.
The E takes up most of the height. The rest of the name stays low and narrow.
Low to medium. The E is clear, and the rest is a quick, flowing line.
A letter you can find from across the room
The first thing you notice is the E. It is drawn with several crossing loops and rises well above everything else. A strong initial is a classic approach: even when the rest of the name melts into a line, the reader still has a clear anchor. Most memorable signatures have one such shape that does the heavy lifting, and here it is unmistakable.
Built for a quick sign on a guitar
Sheeran is known for his acoustic guitars, and signed guitars are among the items fans bring and collectors look for. A signature meant for a curved, glossy surface has to be quick and bold. Dealers describe signed guitars with the name written in silver marker on the body, and charity lots such as a signed Martin guitar have been auctioned for good causes.
Create your Professional Signature in 5 minutes
Not a font: a signature designed for your name, in several drafts, with a practice sheet so you can write it by hand.
From independent EPs to stadium tours
Sheeran released several independent EPs before signing to Asylum Records in 2011, and his rise since then has meant countless signing sessions. Years of repetition tend to simplify a signature, because every unnecessary stroke is dropped. What remains is the core shape you see here, written the same way each time, which is also what makes a genuine one feel consistent.
What you can learn from it
You can sign quickly and still look distinctive if you build the signature around one large, easy shape and let the rest follow in a single line. Practise it until the movement is automatic, because speed is what makes the curves smooth. A Professional Signature designed for you by us comes with a practice sheet for exactly that, so the movement feels natural from the first day.
