Lamine Yamal’s signature

Lamine Yamal’s signature is big and bold: a wide sweeping curve on the left, a short dash, and a looping stroke with a long line underneath. It belongs to one of the youngest stars in world football, and in 2025 it even became a business story. Watch it being drawn below and read on to see what makes it stand out.

Shape

A large open curve at the left, a short dash in the middle and a loop on the right with a long stroke running beneath it.

Where it appears

Barcelona shirts, boots, footballs and cards, now mainly through authorised, authenticated items.

Size

Large and heavy. The strokes are thick and the whole mark takes up far more room than a normal name.

Legibility

Low. It reads as a few confident gestures rather than as letters.

Big gestures from a teenager

Yamal was born on 13 July 2007 and made his Barcelona debut on 29 April 2023, at 15. His signature has the confidence of someone who is asked for it constantly: few strokes, wide curves and a firm, thick line. Young signers often write small and careful, but this one fills the space. That scale makes it quick to recognise, even when it is signed on a curved shirt or a football.

When the autograph became a product

In October 2025 the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported, as quoted by Goal and Fox Sports, that Yamal had stopped signing free autographs. His representatives wanted to create scarcity before a deal with a memorabilia company, so that official signed items would be sold through an authorised online shop. He still posed for photos. Fox Sports compared the idea to the way NBA stars such as LeBron James control their signed merchandise.

Tied to a number and a gesture

Yamal moved up to the Barcelona number 10 shirt when his long-term contract was signed on 16 July 2025, a deal running to June 2031. He also became the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history at Euro 2024, aged 16 years and 338 days. His celebration shows the digits 304, for the last three numbers of the postcode of his home district, Rocafonda. A signature is only one of several signs a player builds around his name.

What you can learn from it

A signature is a personal asset. Yamal’s case shows that a mark that is bold, consistent and easy to recognise can carry real value, and that it is worth protecting from careless copies. Give yours a clear shape, a size you are comfortable with and a rhythm you can repeat. A Professional Signature designed by us is built the same way, so it stays recognisable on contracts, cards and documents alike.
